As the galleys whizz, we talk wig time - Nina de Vroome
In Terwijl de kompels suizen (While the miners whizz by), Nina de Vroome poetically explores the time and space surrounding the small mining village of Bois-du-Luc. In 1685, people danced to baroque music. In that same year, men descended hundreds of metres on ropes, pickaxes clenched in their hands. In the warm earth, they searched for fossil deposits from the Carboniferous period... Coal kept the miners of Bois-du-Luc together, a place from which no one ever had to leave.
The third edition of Veldwerk, the rural research project of Kunstenplatform PLAN B, concluded with a collection of publications. May Abnet, Tim Theo Deceuninck, Ánima O. Cassamajor, Nina de Vroome and Barbara T'Jonck each created a record of their research. Together, they offer a range of possibilities for (re)imagining the rural.
