KUNSTENPLATFORM PLAN B

Between night dream and reality: Night map

This map is a formal experiment based on a personal collection of night dreams. The experiment explores the possibilities of depicting a collective imaginary landscape of the N9.

The map depicts nocturnal reality. Residents sleep and dream from their bedrooms of other worlds, vanished or imagined. A collective imaginary landscape of structures emerges. The dreams take their place in reality, casting (literally) small shadows. But what is happening in the dream sculptures themselves is not yet visible; only the blank backdrop of the dream that unfolds in the night already takes its place on the map.

For Topography of the Night-01-The Mist City, spatial designer Maxime Vancoillie collects, describes and models a series of nocturnal dream location descriptions, thereby unravelling the architecture of night-time dreams. Her research focuses on the misty city, the area between city and countryside, of which the ribbon development of the N9 is a cross-section.
