KUNSTENPLATFORM PLAN B

Mini docu 'Expedition Solitaire II'

During Expedition Solitaire II, Sibran was accompanied by filmmakers Pia De Vylder and Viktor Van Hoof. Together, they produced an audiovisual report of this remarkable expedition, which we are now making temporarily available online.

Initially, I wanted to erect a monument in Het Bos; a beautiful, well-thought-out, stylised Killroy was here. It had to be something that could stand the test of time, something made of concrete. In my imagination, moss would grow on it, the thing would disappear under the vegetation and one day be discovered by workers. Perhaps it would even stand the test of time to such an extent that the monument would be discovered by archaeologists in, say, the year 2877. Or by aliens. Or mutated, hyper-intelligent rats. I assumed they would ask themselves a lot of questions. Or not at all. In the end, it was mainly me who asked myself questions. And I questioned myself. Words such as ridiculous and pedantic, even colonial, regularly crossed my mind."
- Sibran Sampers, excerpt from 'Bewegen zonder breken' (Moving without breaking) for tidal sidle

With the support of Cera, the Flemish government, and the Dutch Embassy in Belgium.

Artist Sibran Sampers is working on tidal sidle - a furtive advance under the influence of tidal forces as part of the PLAN B/Veldwerk project: a research project in which he records and reflects on his fascination with water (ways). A carefully chosen spot on a riverbank forms the starting point for his stream of consciousness. During this long-term project, he wants to leave temporary traces in various places and work with what is around him.
