The beginning of the trip
We resume our journey and, after several days of rain, return to Virgene's garden in Reet. Along the way, we encounter some workers cutting down trees in a garden, who give us sawdust to light the fire in the oven. The first ingredient we collected. We invite them to come and eat, but as we don't have an exact location yet, it's difficult to involve people at this stage of the journey. In Reet, we begin our search for a place to cook, without any prior planning, as we like the idea of cooking outside and interacting with passers-by. Most of the places along the roads we walk are fenced off or marked as private property. Faced with a lack of other public spaces, the public road seems to be the only place where we can interact with passers-by. A fork between two roads became our cooking spot for the night.
Inés and Michela use food and our food culture as an artistic medium, thereby questioning our social and physical environment. Equipped with nothing more than a portable oven and some kitchen utensils, they use Stone Soup to spark conversations, with the preparation of a dish serving as a bonding agent.
