Brick Wall Post

Vicky Vermeire and Dimitri Vermeylen are the people behind Atelier V.V. They do something you don't see very often anymore: they make wallpaper, printed by hand with wooden blocks, and when they're not busy printing, they print posters. They make everything they use themselves, from the paint and stamps to the printing press. They aim to do things the way they used to be done. Think of it as a slow, analogue response to a hyper-digital world.

Our soil has been dug up, baked and finally stacked for centuries. We call that a wall. For Kunst & Zwalm, Atelier V.V. collaborated with graphic designers Piet Bodyn & Mathieu Lauwers to create a new wall. A wall covered with hand-printed paper in a brick pattern. The paint? Made from real bricks. Soil becomes raw material again. Posters hang on the wall, as a reminder of the lost tradition of the political poster. In this way, the wall says something about shelter, about craftsmanship, about where we are. Or who we are. Or perhaps not.
