KUNSTENPLATFORM PLAN B

Futurefarmers

Between the Village, A Pond

Futurefarmers is an international working group of artists, architects, computer programmers, farmers, writers and anthropologists who explore themes such as the commons, high- and low-tech perspectives and the tools we create. For Kunst & Zwalm, Futurefarmers consists of Amy Franceschini, in collaboration with Mose Lein and Oscar Van Geertruyden.

During Kunst & Zwalm, Futurefarmers focused on the transformative potential of worldbuilding to imagine new possible futures. They based their work on the festival theme of 'soil' and took an imaginary village under the Klein Zwitserland pond as their starting point. Futurefarmers built on stories that were already circulating and worked with sediment from the bottom of the pond as their central medium to receive and pass on the story of the village beneath the pond. They set up in various places along the route where visitors could encounter this 'becoming' through sculptural clues, sound broadcasts, a living character, a nomadic clay oven and a deeply indeterminate sound that could be heard from time to time.
