Maïly Beyrens Xu & The 3rd degree of The Green Lilare

Unknown Network

In collaboration with third-year pupils at Het Groene Lilare, artist Maïly Beyrens Xu developed a programme focusing on networks — both visible and invisible. From root systems to friendships, from fungal threads to social connections. What lives beneath our feet also lives among us.

During various sessions, the children explored their everyday environment in a different way. Together with a few guest artists, they drew collectively around a tree, made music with found sounds and wove textiles with materials from the environment. Each encounter revealed new connections. What happens underground often remains invisible — and that is precisely why it is so inspiring. Where the eye stops, the imagination is given free rein. The work culminated in an installation in which sound and image intersect: a soundscape interwoven with traces of experimental photography.

Under the name YLÏAM, Maïly also gave a live concert on the opening day of the route. Maïly interwove the children's voices and self-written songs into a sonic landscape; a live interpretation of their joint quest.

With contributions from: The third-year pupils of Het Groene Lilare and guest artists: Veerle Michiels (music), Yonah Taïeb (textiles), Sarro Dessardo (drawing) and Zeph Lau (photography).
