Reinout Dewulf

What does a strange bird do when you release it into unfamiliar territory? It builds
a nest with whatever it can find nearby.

For a week, Reinout was crowned Bekegem's living hospitality barometer. With barely anything in his pocket for his stay in the village, he built a settlement on the village square with (donated materials from) the residents. From clothing, meals and electricity to a comfortable mattress and a good chat: Reinout's needs and requirements were generously met during his week-long residency. By provoking this literal dialogue with the residents, he questioned and created social dynamics at the micro level in a very accessible way.

BIO

“Art can improve people's lives and, by extension, make the world a better place.” Even during his Master's degree in Autonomous Design at KASK Ghent, Reinout Dewulf (°1989, B) deviated from the well-trodden paths of ‘art’. Through concrete actions, participatory projects and ideas for possible projects, Reinout seeks the value of 'art' outside the museums. He usually draws inspiration from everyday life and puts people at the centre of his work. He is always looking for an accessible and playful way to shape his view of the world.
