Nikolas Lestaeghe
FC BEKEGEM
"If we are looking for meaning, let's take a more extreme approach."
The Bekegem football pitch forms the backdrop for the interactive installation FC Bekegem. Nikolas does not put an average football team on the pitch, but instead uses a series of ingenious constructions to determine the match. A scoreboard is superfluous, because these aids inevitably guide the ball towards the goal. And you? You set these football dominoes in motion. The scent of victory is permanently in the air when the ball follows the same trajectory as that of Messi, Ronaldo or Kompany.
BIO
Nikolas Lestaeghe (born 1988, Belgium) studied Dramatic Arts (Directing) at RITCS Brussels. In his practice, Nikolas constantly seeks ways to tell universal stories through his personal experiences. That is why he usually appears on stage himself: this allows him to reinforce his universe and immediately draw any actors he may have into his story. Nikolas has previously collaborated on ACT/COLLECTION, Trailer Park by Miet Warlop (KFDA, Brussels), and has performed in various productions at Theater Aan Zee (Ostend), Vama Veche (Bruges) and De Zomer van Antwerpen. He is also co-founder of the Brussels artists' collective K.A.K. (Koekelbergse Alliantie van Knutselaars), a nomadic alliance of tinkerers, and at Kunstenwerkplaats Pianofabriek (Brussels) he often conducts preliminary research for productions.
