Ruben Castro
QUESTIONS OF UNINTENTIONAL TECTONICS
Without expectations or preconceived structures, Ruben allowed himself to be guided for a week by chance encounters and impressions of Bekegem. This resulted in an unpredictable set of lines of thought and patterns, which he attempted to capture with the analogue camera he carried with him. Ruben wanted the observation, recording and development of the actual image to take place on the spot (including a photo lab in the village). Through this process, he sought to develop a new language, while at the same time enabling a new spatiality.
BIO
Ruben Castro (born 1990, Belgium) graduated as an architect from KU Leuven, after which he worked in Switzerland for several years and established his own studio. Ruben's work is not limited to one medium, but encompasses photography, models, installations and temporary spaces. In doing so, he explores the possibilities of architecture that creates its own essence, a play of oppositions in time, gravity and mass. In Belgium, Ruben's work has previously been exhibited at Z33 (Hasselt), deSingel (Antwerp), FoMu (Antwerp) and C-mine (Genk), among others. His work has also been shown outside Belgium at Schunck* (Heerlen, NL), de Van Eyck (Maastricht, NL) and the Goyang Aram Nuri Arts Centre (Goyang-si, KOR).
