Sander Adriaens
THE GARDENER
With his photo series The Gardener, Sander Adriaens explores the ways in which humans attempt to control nature in a half-hearted manner. From picking wild bouquets to perfectly mowed lawns, this series takes a childlike look at the relationship between the plant world and human intervention.
BIO
Sander Adriaens (°1990, B) obtained his Master's degree in Photography at AP University College Antwerp. In his practice, he focuses on photographing still lifes of an unusual kind. Using small objects with or without a clear identity, Sander creates touching little sculptures. Photographed against a somewhat clumsy background, these have a moving quality. In his imaginative play with everyday objects, Sander reveals the beauty of the temporary and the magic of everyday arrangements that we have somewhat forgotten since childhood. A dose of absurdism is also part of this, as well as a smile that is always lurking.
