Sidney Aelbrecht
WHERE UNDER THE CLOUDS PEOPLE ARE DWARFS
In Bekegem, Sidney explored three historical themes from painting: still life, landscape and portraiture. Starting with a construction of white canvases, he brought the material used to make art into a space where art is presented. In this way, Sidney created a temporary white cube in which the landscape forms the framework and the canvas simultaneously creates a new space for play and intimacy.
BIO
Sidney Aelbrecht (born 1990, Belgium) obtained a master's degree in painting from LUCA Ghent. His work has been presented at various festivals and exhibitions at home and abroad, including the Governor's Residence in Ghent, BOZAR in Brussels and TCG Nordica in China. In his paintings, Sidney typically places mundane and meaningful objects within surreal spaces constructed from areas of colour. These seemingly naive images then reveal different layers of meaning that refer to philosophy, art history, literature and personal symbolism.
