Ánima O. Cassamajor
Ánima O. Cassamajor and their collective Back2SoilBasics make ecology accessible to those who have less access to it due to systemic oppression. We often see that this denial is intersectional, between racism, classicism, ableism, etc. Sometimes it takes the form of financial exclusion, sometimes access to certain knowledge, a lack of representation, or an open dialogue with the other that is constantly avoided.
Back2SoilBasics therefore sets out to answer the question: "How can we bring nature to the city and the city to nature?" The collective considers this knowledge about nature to be an act of resilience.
Within this context, Ánima is expanding its research through ecological sculptures that grow over time and form a home for (bio)diversity in the city. These works are created together with the people from the neighbourhood. In doing so, Ánima seeks ownership through participation and looks for visual forms that act as an educational magnifying glass.
The aim is to take the participants closer to nature. To this end, Ánima is looking for a place just outside Brussels, where a productive ecosystem can be built permanently and collaboratively. ❤ 🐚
