Fieldwork III meeting: Ánima O. Cassamajor
Throughout the Fieldwork programme, the group meets at regular intervals. Each artist takes turns inviting the others to a moment of exchange, at a location that is relevant to their research at that time.
Ánima O. Cassamajor took the group to Korenbeek, a temporary occupation in an old municipal school in Hoog Molenbeek. The Brussels organisation Toestand and various partners organise activities there for local residents and other Brussels residents, including Ánima and their collective Back2SoilBasics. Together with – and for – the neighbourhood, they are creating a food garden, an ecological sculpture in the form of a pump track.
In this way, Back2SoilBasics is addressing the question 'How can we bring nature to the city and the city to nature?'. The collective considers this knowledge about nature to be an act of resilience. Together, they are making ecology accessible to those who have less access to it due to systemic oppression. The aim is to take the participants back to nature. To this end, Ánima is now looking for a place just outside Brussels where a productive ecosystem can be built permanently and collaboratively as part of its Fieldwork research.
