Photo report: Ritual commemoration Ψυχοσάββατο (Saturday of souls) with The Post Collective

For Kunst & Zwalm 2025, The Post Collective explored how people with a migrant background connect with the country and claim their right to flourish far from their homeland with their project Metaspora. In collaboration with the millers of the IJzerkotmolen, the artists organised ritual gatherings in Zwalm. These were inspired by holy days from their different cultures that are connected to wheat, and formed the basis for the work they presented on the art route. 

On 7 June, we learned how to prepare kolyva, a ritual dish made from wheat, honey, nuts and dried fruit. It is rooted in Eastern Orthodox traditions and is prepared for Ψυχοσάββατο (Psihosavato), a moment dedicated to commemorating the deceased. Together, we explored ways to honour those who have gone before us.
