KUNSTENPLATFORM PLAN B

Waiting for the blue frog

The fourth day is a rainy day. We take shelter under one of the asbestos roofs. This material was widely used in brick factories because asbestos is highly resistant to high temperatures. This place borders a forest, where brambles overgrow some ruins. It seems like a mystical place, where nature leads its own life. Here we meet a man who is waiting in the rain for the perfect moment to capture a blue frog, which lives in the small pond in the forest, on camera. We realise that this forest is not only a strategic place for us to observe. The village seems reserved, but as we chop wood and prepare posters for the event we have planned for the next day with the Gelatinografo, people slowly emerge who are happy to share stories with us. We meet Michael and Katleen, two strong people who welcome us and are keen to show the solidarity in their community. We also meet René, who belongs to the family of the Steenbakkerij Gebr, Lauwers, and he slowly tells us more about the past of this place.

Inés and Michela use food and our food culture as an artistic medium, thereby questioning our social and physical environment. Equipped with nothing more than a portable oven and some kitchen utensils, they use Stone Soup to spark conversations, with the preparation of a dish serving as a bonding agent.
