Ailsa Cavers

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

In her practice, Ailsa consistently explores the relationship between 'the artist' and the way art is produced, preserved and destroyed. With Under Construction, she visualised the production process of an exact replica of the prehistoric caves of Lascaux in France. How do you copy an entire archaeological site? In the form of a studio visit, you go through the various steps from start to finish.

In her own words, Aisla is a graphic designer who presents herself as an artist. Central to her work is the way in which the artist's craftsmanship is passed on: from the hierarchical transmission from master to apprentice to a handbook for Sunday painters.
