Gitte Hendrikx

Gitte began her residency week in Bekegem with the question: "What does street theatre mean in the context of a village?" She involved the residents in her research, after which she worked with them to find a place where this practice could take place. Soon, their front gardens became the stage for their short sketches, in which they translated their personalities to the outside world in a performative way. Gitte then filmed these actions: the recording of an open question to which these Bekegem residents, with Gitte's help, offered their own unique answers.

BIO

Gitte Hendrikx (born 1992, Belgium) began her studies at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (Netherlands), after which she completed her Master's degree at the Geneva University of Art and Design (Geneva, Switzerland). In her practice, Gitte works from a strongly sociological, multimedia and multidisciplinary perspective. She applies this in her observation of human behaviour and everyday interactions, exploring the precise meaning of the notion of theatre (including the stage). By using elements such as delay, repetition, freezing and abrupt endings, she bridges the gap between performance and theatre.
