Sibran Sampers

Starting from his alter ego Doctor Deconynck, Sibran set to work with archetypes and symbols from the present and the past. The result lies at the intersection of visual art and performance, in which he dissects the macho man along both artistic paths. In a succession of associative images and with the football room serving as an experimental auditorium, he sought to achieve total surrender.

BIO

Sibran Sampers (born 1991, Belgium) studied Theatre Studies at Ghent University, immediately followed by a course in Autonomous Design at KASK Ghent. As a visual and performance artist, Sibran seeks answers to certain issues through conflict or discussion. In his performance Konijn op grootmoeders wijze (Rabbit à la grandma), for example, he denounced the hypocrisy of urban meat consumers. He is also the procurator of his travelling practice Tripudiometrisch Instituut Sibran Sampers (Tripudiometric Institute Sibran Sampers), in which he attempts to predict the future using chickens and other poultry. Through personal sessions or group séances, he plays on the twilight zone between quackery and psychotherapy, searching for possible similarities. Meanwhile, Sibran had his exhibition Heir – Könynck in In De Ruimte (Ghent) and you could attend sessions of his Tripudiometry at, among others, Gouvernement, the exhibition space These Things Take Time, and during the Copacobana Festival.
