I FILM FOR YOU
I film for you (2018) is an experimental documentary about social inequality and the refugee crisis. Director Damjan Peric hands the camera over to Ismaël, who has just arrived in Belgium. They met at Hotel Astrid, a squatted building in Brussels where around 80 migrants had taken refuge. Intercut with images from the reception centre in Antwerp, this change of perspective creates a unique portrait. The film engages in a dialogue with questions about the ethics of film: What is the relationship between the subject, the camera and the filmmaker?
This film was screened during the PLAN B 2018 Arts Festival together with May Day by Fedrik De Beul & Olivier Magis. Both films attempt to address precarious subjects such as poverty, illness and origin in a playful way, but at the same time give a prominent role to hidden solidarity.
