BROT AF SEYÐISFJIRÐI / FRAGMENTS OF SEYÐISFJÖRÐUR

Mirte created Brot af Seyðisfjirði / Fragments of Seyðisfjörður during her two-month residency last year in the village of Seyðisfjörður (Iceland). Through fragments of the sewing club, the fish factory, the choir, the ferry and the landscape, the film embodies both the emotional and experimental reality of the village. Mirte analyses the layered nature of Seyðisfjörður in a tangible and cultural way. The film seems to be a blueprint for the village and, with this visual parallel, bridges the 2,753 km between Iceland and Bekegem.

BIO

Mirte van Duppen (born 1990, NL) obtained a Master's degree in Graphic Design from the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam, after first studying Design at ArtEZ in Arnhem. As a visual artist, she works on the functions, relationships and transformations of urban landscapes, focusing on the interaction between people and their environment. In her films, reality and fictional elements alternate continuously. In this way, she intuitively, yet precisely, captures landscapes in virtually still photographic images. Through the silence in which she moves her camera, the viewer slowly becomes part of Mirte's world.
