Photo report: Making Buryat-Mongolian dumplings with The Post Collective

For Kunst & Zwalm 2025, The Post Collective explored how people with a migrant background connect with the country and claim their right to flourish far from their homeland with their project Metaspora. In collaboration with the millers of the IJzerkotmolen, the artists organised ritual gatherings in Zwalm. These were inspired by holy days from their different cultures that are connected to wheat, and formed the basis for the work they presented on the art route. 

On 25 January 2025, we learned how to make buuz – traditional Buryat-Mongolian dumplings served during celebrations. We rolled up our sleeves, kneaded, shaped and talked about our memories of food, the customs we share and their relationship to cultural identity.
