RABOT

"These are harrowing scenes, but Rabot exposes the humanity of these characters – even though they themselves have often forgotten that humanity." – De Morgen

On Wednesday 29 August, in the run-up to the festival weekend, the PLAN B Arts Festival organised a shared dinner, followed by a screening of the documentary Rabot. This frame story reflects life in the three social housing towers of the Ghent neighbourhood of the same name. With the demolition of these towers imminent, Christina Vandekerckhove paints an honest portrait of vulnerable people.

The Rabot towers in Ghent are the result of a social experiment with a short-sighted approach. Since the 1970s, deprivation has been hidden away in these 537 flats. After 45 years, a handful of residents are preparing for the final exodus. Vandekerckhove follows their last bleak months and lets the walls of the towers speak.

This documentary won the Audience Award at last year's Film Fest Gent.
