Fedrik De Beulul & Olivier Magis
MAY DAY
May Day (2017) transports you to Thierry's living room, where a dozen people have gathered with the same goal: to find work, and preferably as soon as possible. But things don't always go as planned, especially in a capital city like Brussels.
In May Day, Fedrik De Beul and Olivier Magis create a black comedy that excels in its simplicity and sharp intelligence. Although this short film addresses complex themes such as economic inequality, poverty and the eternal struggle for a life and a decent job, a touch of wry humour is never far away. A universal story, rooted in Belgian soil.
This short film has already won several awards at the Short Film Festival in Leuven and won the Short Grand Prix in Warsaw.
This film was screened during the PLAN B 2018 Arts Festival together with I film for you by Damjan Peric. Both films attempt to address precarious topics such as poverty, illness and origin in a playful way, but at the same time give a prominent role to hidden solidarity.
