KUNSTENPLATFORM PLAN B

Simon Van Honacker

CYCLING RACE ONLY FOR (FORMER) RESIDENTS MEN (+18) OF BEKEGEM ALONG A TRAFFIC-FREE COURSE WITH START AND FINISH IN THE VILLAGE STREET.

For PLAN B, Simon created a unique audio work, Wielerwedstrijd (Cycling Race), exclusively for (former) male residents (+18) of Bekegem, along a traffic-free route starting and finishing in Dorpstraat, recorded during the event of the same name in Bekegem. This field recording was based on the same principle he used throughout his graduation project Observaties in Vlaanderen (Observations in Flanders): audio recordings made at various locations in – yes – Flanders. His list of audio pieces includes the re-enactment of the Battle of Passchendaele, the Easter Mass in Lichtervelde and the Planckendael animal park. Simon visited these various events, gatherings and environments in Flanders and captured their temporary collectivity and atmosphere.
