the black sisters

The Black Sisters (B) needed nothing more than a desire to make music with a large group of people with a visual arts background to gather a band of trained and untrained musicians – mainly students from Sint-Lucas Ghent – around them. A fixed rehearsal day on Monday evenings also helped.

Through improvisation, they explore the tension between the musical and the visual-performative during each performance; a sound experiment that is impossible to foresee or predict – from fragile solo to complete chaos and back again. Central to this is the search for collective value, friendship and trust. Things for which they find inspiration in everyday objects, the environment and free play. During the PLAN B 2018 Arts Festival, they rehearsed on site for a whole week and played two six-hour sessions during the festival weekend. 

Previously, their tour bus had already taken them to Gouvernement (Ghent), Vama Veche (Bruges), CAMPO (Ghent), Copacobana (Ghent), Beursschouwburg (Brussels),...
