Pim Cornelussen
A kind of Silence
During his Veldwerk I programme, Pim Cornelussen developed Een soort van Stilte (A Kind of Silence), a study of ecological amnesia. How do we deal with the mass extinction of other organisms in our time? How did the world look through these other eyes, in these other bodies? In the form of a walk in which you, as a spectator, step into the shoes of an extinct (or endangered) animal species, you got to know extinct animal species intimately. During a public walk in Bruges, for example, you met the wild horse, an extinct precursor to the horse we know today. A Kind of Silence is an exercise in cross-species empathy, a search for how we can feel what we have lost. You can still take the walk; information about it can be found here.
