The Post Collective
Metaspora
The Post Collective is an autonomous platform for co-creation, co-learning and cultural activism. It was founded in 2018 by artists, activists and researchers with different access to artistic production and education due to their legal status. Metaspora is an ongoing collaboration between Mirra Markhaëva and Elli Vassalou with Anna Housiada.
Metaspora explores how people with a migrant background connect with the land and claim their right to flourish far from their homeland. In collaboration with the millers of the IJzerkotmolen, the artists organised ritual gatherings in Zwalm. These were inspired by holy days from their different cultures that are connected to wheat. Together with the inhabitants of Zwalm, they made traditional Buryat-Mongolian dumplings, prepared kolyva (a ritual dish rooted in Eastern Orthodox traditions), and organised a procession where the local Mary of the Seven Sorrows, Mary of the First Seed, and Buryat shamanistic and Buddhist rituals came together.
These events formed the basis for their installation in a chapel. By blending traditions of the land with those of artists, the work challenges colonial and capitalist relationships with the earth and offers an intersectional perspective on ecology, community, and ritual.
